BE THE ACTOR THEY
HAVE TO HAVE.

TO BE A GREAT ACTOR, YOU HAVE TO ACT.

GET INTO CLASS

HERE'S THE DEAL...

Good actors make good choices.

Knowing how to make good choices, takes work.

Scene study is the actors gym. You will build new muscles, and maintain the ones you have.

IF YOU'RE READY TO DO THE WORK, THIS CLASS IS FOR YOU.

What happens during class?

You're welcomed into a brief discussion of technique, industry trends, rehearsal discoveries, etc. This is super casual and lighthearted.

You recieve the scene order for the class.

Each set of performers will have 10 minutes to prepare their stage and go over any final blocking, lines, etc.

Notes and constructive evaluation follow each scene.

You'll get your new scene assignment for next week.

You'll receive additional resources and optional reading to give your actor mind fuel for the week ahead.

Scene Study is a space for serious actors and those aspiring to practice their skills and explore new ones in a supportive environment. You'll learn how to self-critique, and you'll receive productive feedback from the instructor. The result is that you'll feel confident in making strong acting choices and you'll polish your craft alongside other actors who are serious about their careers. It's like going to the gym, but for actors.

What's the point of Scene Study?

They say success happens when preparation meets opportunity.

THE PROFESSIONAL ACTOR STAYS READY.

I can't promise you'll book every gig forever after, but here's what I can promise...

You will build your skills and confidence as a performer.

You will learn how to make STRONG CHOICES as an actor.

You will grow within a community of other actors that are tenacious and courageous, just like you

MY APPROACH TO ACTING

Acting is highly personal work. I have spent over a decade figuring out what techniques, methods, and skills, work for me.

I'm not much of a koolaid drinker for any specific method. --Rather, I prefer to experiment, use my imagination, and get weird with it.

I discover how to connect to material through doing. It's the only way in. You have to try it.

That's why I believe so deeply in scene study. That room is is where you get to play and figure out how to make a scene feel right. Getting a scene on its feet and performing for an audience reminds me why I feel in love with acting.

MY APPROACH TO COACHING

Scene Study is a space where you actually get to act, so you can stay fresh while you're waiting for that next gig. IRL you'll almost always be performing prepared work, so that's also what we do in class. I select scenes for each person that I feel will help them grow as a performer and feel challenged from week to week.

As your coach, I'm not here to show you the light. Rather, I want to encourage you to discover your own version of the craft through trying out a variety of skills and techniques. You'll practice and apply these via the weekly scene work and we'll talk about it during class, following your performance.

I keep my classes small on purpose. Everyone works every week and has a significant chunk of time dedicated to their work.

“Training with Hillary honed my work ethic and further enflamed my passion for the craft. Her attention to detail and eye for merging a natural performance with a style authentic to me, was the ideal approach to helping me grow as an actor."
